The Proposal

It was in October 2002. Unexpectedly…. he told me to marry him. Without any ring. I was shocked. Asking could this be real? And take note, he told me… He did not ask…

Nine months before the proposal, we drifted apart. I wasn’t sure if we are still going to make it. He left the country. We broke up for four months. He was gone for seven months. Then we realized… we both can’t live without each other.

He came back in September 2002. Back together. After a month, he told me to marry him…

He came home one evening. I was busy reading. He was sitting in front of the PC. Busy? I dunno. I really dunno. That time… I was physically with him but my heart was still afraid… Afraid of the past.

He called me “Mahal, come here”. (Trivia : We never call each other by name) Asking me to sit on his lap. I came wondering. Then he told me, let’s get married. I was like huh? When? :p He said next year…. Oh okay! My mind tells me, yeah right don’t expect too much as next year is 365++ days from now. So many things can happen…

September 2003. I had a side-trip to India. For two reasons. I need to decide, shall I go ahead and spend my lifetime with him? I have to be sure if he’s really not committed to anyone yet backhome. And of course, the other reason, I want to see other places.

I’d finally met his parents. And there I got caught. They asked me, so when are you two getting married? Oooopsie! He replied, next year. Oooopsie again! It’s not that I didn’t want to, but I wasn’t ready for that conversation. I felt a little nervous and awkward… Imagine your bf’s parents asking you when to get married?

Anyway, my one week stay there kept us all busy…. shopping, traveling from one place to another etc…. And no one (I thought) brought up the wedding/getting married topic again. Yeah, that was what I thought…

After a week, it was my time to go home for a month vacation. Last words his parents told me as I was going off their place were “when you reach home, we will ring you up and talk to your parents”. I said NO! I will tell them!

I landed safely. Always checking my celphone. He called. And said when am i going to tell my parents. Told him to wait, I just came. I’m waiting for the right timing hehehe!

Believe me that was the hardest part. Telling your parents that you are getting married. Well, it’s expected. Being with him for 5 years, of course…

Anyway, I didn’t have the courage to tell them instead I told him to send me a message like we are conversing about it, and I’ll let them read it hahaha!

Success! They didn’t question me at all. My dad even told me, while you are here why don’t you process the papers that you would need….
