Like so many other things that change when you have children, the way your home operates may totally turn on its head once you have kids. We all know the usual implications of this: waving goodbye to your previously stain-free carpet, or dealing with a constantly messy kitchen as you try to home cook for your little darlings every night. But one other room that can often bear the brunt of life with small children is the bathroom.
For kids, bath time can be the highlight of the day, and it may even be something you enjoy in a similar way too. Kids love splashing about in the bath and playing with foam, bath bombs and all other types of bath time accessories. However, once they are out of the tub and freshly dried off, you may end up looking back at your bathroom and wondering whether or not a bomb has hit it while you weren’t looking. Scrunched up bathmats and towels littering the floor, water stains streaking the glass of your shower door and soap scum gathering around the plug holes don’t exactly scream ‘luxury’ for your bathroom. So, is there a way for you to create a bathroom that your kids will still enjoy, but that also works for the adults in the house? Here are a few tips you may want to bear in mind.

Towel racks and rails The towels mentioned above littering the floor doesn’t only look bad – it can also be pretty unsanitary, especially if you tend to have a lot of different people using your bathroom on any given day. With that in mind, you need to get the towels up off the floor and onto the walls, with either shelving or an electric heated towel rail. Putting a laundry basket in your bathroom too will encourage your kids to dispose of their dirty towels once they are finished with them, making it a lot easier for you to keep on top of the laundry too.
A double sink This might seem a little superfluous – but hear us out! If you are blessed with a reasonably large bathroom, you may want to think about getting two sinks installed. That means one for you and your partner and one for your kids. After all, no matter how many times you tell your little ones to wipe up after themselves, they’re still going to leave dried toothpaste, hair and goodness knows what else around the sink on a daily basis. Give them their sink to combat this – you never know, they may even start cleaning it themselves to be more independent.

Countertop storage Kids don’t like to go rattling through drawers to find something they need. In any case, it surely makes sense to have all the items you regularly use within easy grasp in your bathroom. Get hold of some storage jars and tins for things like your family toothbrushes and soaps. Giving everything its own place will encourage your children to put things back where they found them, and you will end up with a much tidier bathroom as a result.
