Valid IDs? I have nothing nothing to show except for my passport. That’s my biggest problem whenever I am asked for two (2) valid IDs.
To comply with Bangko Sentral circular, client should be required to present two (2) valid IDs when engaging a financial transaction with any bank in the Philippines. Well, not only with the banks, there are establishments who ask for IDs as reference. At times, I really don’t feel the need to show two (2) but what can we do? That’s the rule!
I thought it would be good and informative to share the list of valid IDs honored in the Philippines:
- Passport
- Current Driver’s License
- Permit to Carry Firearms
- New Social Security System card (SSS)
- Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) eCard
- Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID
- New Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Postal ID
- National Statistics Office (NSO) Authenticated Birth Certificate
- NSO authenticated Marriage Ceritificate
- Original and Unexpired National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance
- Police Clearance
- Digitized Voter’s ID
- Philhealth Card
- Office of Senior Citizen’s Affairs (OSCA) / Senior Citizen’s Card

- IDCertification from the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP)
- Department of Social Welfate and Development
- PRA Special Resident Retiree Visa (SRRV) ID
- Other Valid IDs issued by the Government and its instrumentalities
The general conditions for all identification documents should be:

- copies must be clear (photo and information details can be readily seen)
I used to have with me my TIN and SSS cards but left them all home when I went and worked abroad. Since, the Philippines is one of the mostly hit places by typhoon in the world, both went missing when our house was damaged some years ago. That’s how I was left with no IDs. I’ve always planned to have the necessary ones applied for but just by watching the people lined up in a long queue, I always drop the idea. For now, my passport, SBMA and Company IDs are helping me survive!
