One of the many perks of working from home is that you can either squat on the floor and move around the house without any hassle. As long as there is a stable internet connection, no problem. Although in my case, I prefer to have a working corner for myself, especially that I spend half of my working hours during bedtime. If I work in bed, there is a tendency that I doze off without knowing it. Anyway, this corner used to be the space for our shoes. The moment I had the built-in shoerack made downstairs, I thought this could be a perfect place for my working corner.
A pleasant working space makes a big difference, well, at least for me. It helps me boost my morale and increases my productivity. I make it a point that it will look like, as if, I am working in a real office, with a laptop, good lighting, books and other items that are pleasant to my eyes. Of course, they have to be organized. Let me show you around…
In the right corner is where my printer is placed. Since, I seldom use it, I kept some of my fave knick knacks on it. Under it is another cabinet where I keep my girls’ art materials for easy access whenever they need some.
The Hello Kitty portable fan was a Christmas gift from my cousin, Lheng, which I find very useful during daytime. The clock (sorry, it was placed upside down when I took the photo) was a souvenir gift from my boss when he left for the US for good. The glass mug was another gift from my cousin last Christmas. The Toblerone in the center is an empty package included in the pasalubong that my current boss gave us from our recent meet & greet last month. Yes, I am sentimental like that so I kept it with the rest of my current fave items.
Aside from the laptop, on my desk are:
-Small desk calendar. I am more comfortable checking the dates the old school way haha!
-My fave books: novels and marketing books.
-Pink lamp bought from SM home section.
-A pot of Sansevieria plant which has been under my care for more than 6 months now. This plant is just one of the few succulents that you can grow and survive indoors.
-A coffee mug. I change mugs everyday you know, depending on my mood but most of the time I use the ones from my Hello Kitty collection.
-A lazy pod that holds my extra gadget and headset. This is where I watch movies online and play music. I don’t like a too quiet environment when working especially at night. I tend to imagine creepy things when it gets really quiet haha!
-My matching mouse and mouse pad. This has been of service to me for about 4 years now.
On the left is an empty chair with an owl pillow. When I get a backache from sitting for a long time, I just recline a bit and rest my feet on it, sideways.
Underneath my desk is a small space where I keep more books, organizers/planners that were never used, selfie pod and a hard-drive. In that drawer is where I keep some of the chargers and just random stuff that I might need.
I also have an office swivel chair, with a Hello Kitty pillow on it. It was a gift from my eldest daughter. Yes! I am a big fan of Hello Kitty, that’s why. I bought this “almost new” swivel chair 2 years ago from Japan surplus nearby for only Php, 1,000.
If you noticed, you won’t see any tangled cables and wires around my working space. Everything is properly tied and kept behind the desk itself. I know not everyone reacts and organizes their workspace the way I do, but I just can’t work in peace with scattered stuff. I get stressed and panic a lot when I can’t find my stuff in a snap. I also make sure that the things kept/displayed around me are the things that make me feel good about.
I also keep a couple of canvass decors to give life to an empty wall. I have three more frames recently stuck on the wall using an adhesive clay. These were the recent Valentine gifts from my two girls and househelp.
I plan to have the walls re-painted but still thinking of the perfect color for a perfect working environment.
All the things that you see here are kept this way at all times and not for pictorial purposes only. I am that organized when it comes to keeping my things. And my kids know very well that they can’t touch my things without permission. How about you? How do you feel about your working space at home?
Wow, your workspace is so well-ordered, and I guess your house is the same. I really want my house is like yours but it might be out of my control because my children are very dynamic 🙁
That’s such a lovely space. I and my daughter are big fan of Hello Kitty. We love decorate our house with Kitty stuff. My work space is full of pink and Kitty. Also, Totoro!
Hi Jennifer! Thanks for dropping by. I just hate clutter. I’m just lucky, too, that my kids are used to the surrounding, and that they know very well that putting away everything after use is a MUST haha!
Hi Kristi! Oh I’m a big fan of Hello Kitty, too, so as my younger daughter.
Thanks for leaving a comment.
I like that your workspace looks comfy and have a homely feel. I work at home too, and I used to work on my laptop in the living room with the TV on and amongst the noise from my 2 kids. After I made a space upstairs in the bedroom just for my desk, I can concentrate much better, and also normally don’t get disturbed until my wife calls for me to sort my kids out.
Hi Leo, exactly! That’s why I prefer to work this way, too.
Boosting morale and increasing productivity are the keywords here Mitch! You’re absolutely right. I also think that your office design has a direct impact on your health, like your eyes, your posture and mental health. It’s definitely a room where you should spend time on furnishing well.
