Last week, mom and I spent our long weekend in Bicol for two reasons, to check on the land that my brother’s has recently bought and meet with our relatives whom I haven’t seen for over 21 years. We were supposed to be traveling with my brother via Cebu Pacific but due to his cancelled local flights, he did not make it. Rather than having wasted bookings, we decided to go ahead and push through with our trip.
We arrived at Naga Airport (Pili) at around 11am. We were actually half an hour delayed and since it was almost lunch time, we went straight to SM City Naga to have lunch and meet with my long lost cousin, Ate Che, whom we have seen for the first time, after 39 years. Thanks to Facebook, we were united.
On our first day in Ragay, I did not waste a minute without having buko freshly picked from the coconut tree, and of course the famous laing and adobong Bicol.
That afternoon, we went to Banga, where my mom grew up to visit and meet with our relatives. They were so surprised to see me gained weight, finally. Oh I forgot to mention that it was heavily raining the day we reached, which made the pathways messed up with mud. On the way, the tricycle broke down.
Before we went back to my cousin’s house where we stayed the whole weekend, I invited few of my cousins to spend time with me over some booze. We had an empi night, and as usual, I’m the only girl in the group.
Few hours before our departure back to Subic, we went to Centro to buy some souvenirs and pasalubong for my officemates. I got myself a couple of fridge magnets, shirts for the girls, my husband, brother, and househelp. Of course, I also bought the well known kapeng barako and pili nuts.
We reached the airport on time. As usual, the flight was delayed. Good thing there was a wi-fi connection at the waiting area that kept me occupied the whole time.
I wish I had more time to spend there. I promised my cousins to be back in January with my girls and husband. I’m glad he already agreed. Instead of having a celebration for the girls’ birthday, we will travel to Bicol and spend a week there maybe.
sarap naman! not yet sure pero I might go there by April next year, hehe!
Sarap talaga magpahinga sa probinsya lola! Pero pahinga lang, di ko kaya manirahan dun haha! Hina ng signal LOL!
I presume you had a great time with your visit to Bicol, sometimes I wish we also have a province that we can go to (both my parents were native of our hometown)-no choice, though Laguna is a province I can say I still like the more subdued way of life
